Expressions of Interest - Exotic Caulerpa Kaitiaki
Expression of Interest
Are you passionate about Aotea’s moana and interested in supporting the protection of our marine environment? Tai Tū Moana is seeking expressions of interest from local kaitiaki who would like to be involved in mahi related to the exotic caulerpa response around Aotea.
This EOI is to understand who may be available and interested in part-time, flexible involvement as opportunities arise - hours, locations, and specific activities are still to be confirmed.
About the Role
Kaitiaki involvement may include:
Talking with boaties and members of the public about exotic caulerpa and biosecurity practices.
Supporting marine surveillance activities, including being on vessels during survey work.
Assisting with general mahi in the exotic caulerpa space as required.
This role is primarily public-facing, with opportunities to build skills and contribute to future marine biosecurity and monitoring work around Aotea.
Who We’re Looking For
We are keen to hear from people who:
Care deeply about Aotea’s moana and marine taonga.
Are reliable, approachable, and comfortable engaging with the public.
Are motivated to learn and be involved in marine biosecurity mahi.
Have an interest in supporting future survey and monitoring work.
Are Aotea-based, and have a schedule which can be flexible (e.g. assisting with survey/monitoring mahi 1-2 days per month).
No previous experience is required - just enthusiasm, a willingness to learn, and a genuine interest in supporting Aotea’s moana space.
How to Register Your Interest
Please send us a short Expression of Interest outlining:
Why you are interested in being involved as a kaitiaki.
Your connection to Aotea and interest in moana-related mahi.
Your general availability and interest in future marine or survey work.
A copy of your CV (if you have one).
Email hannahs@ngatirehua.iwi.nz by 5pm, 5 January 2026.
Submitting an EOI does not guarantee work, but will help us understand interest and availability as the programme develops.
