Pest control of feral cats and rodents via the Tū Mai Taonga Project.
Moana
Long-term aspiration is the restoration of the Mauri of the Sea, delivered by Iwi for Iwi. We will do this via protection of marine taonga species through fisheries management and marine protection areas, pest control focusing on Caulerpa via the Tai Tū Moana Project and marine research via the Ahu Moana and Pou Rāhui Projects.
Our Projects
Tū Mai Taonga aims to restore the ecological and cultural wellbeing of Aotea (Great Barrier Island) by eradicating invasive predators, revitalising native biodiversity, and empowering the local Māori community through tikanga-led conservation and employment.
Tai Tū Moana seeks to embed kaitiakitanga in the effective management of invasive species within the moana, to protect the ecological health, cultural values and economic resilience of Aotea and its surrounding moana - exotic caulerpa is its first challenge
