Pou Rangatiratanga

Ngāti Rehua seeks to settle our historic Treaty claims with the Crown and assert our Mana Whenua, Mana Moana and Mana Tangata status over our rohe. We aim to do this as soon as possible but recognise that this will be determined by the voice of our people when they are ready.

It is envisioned that a Treaty Settlement will include a Crown apology, recognition of our Iwi status and rohe in legislation, return of land and assets, financial restitution and formal Crown partnerships across a range of kaupapa such as health, education, local government and conservation.

Although we recognise and value our whakapapa and whanaungatanga connections to other Iwi groups such as Ngātiwai, Ngāti Manuhiri and Marutuahu, we assert our Rangatiratanga over our own rohe as an independent Iwi and decision maker for Tangata Whenua. As such, Ngāti Rehua will represent ourselves at all Crown engagements and at Iwi forums.

As a Trust Board we will ensure that we regularly gather whānau voice from our beneficiaries via rangatahi, pakeke and kaumātua hui to include a wide range of our people in discussion and decision making, both on our marae and outside our rohe.
