Our Marae
Kawa Marae
Kawa Marae was established in the northern part of Aotea by our tupuna, situated in the beautiful Kawa Bay at the north end of Aotea. The marae is run by the Ngātiwai o Aotea Kawa Marae Trust Board, the legal entity that administers over 1.214 hectares of Māori land at Kawa.
Location
Kawa Marae is nestled in Moanauriuri bay on the north-western side of Aotea. Kawa Rd, Katherine Bay, Great Barrier Island.

Motairehe Marae
Motairehe Marae, located in Katherine Bay on the northwest coast, has the wharenui Whakaruruhau, opened in 1983. Serving Ngātiwai ki Aotea, descendants of Manaia, the marae is a tribute to Uncle Peter Davies, whose leadership made the marae’s development possible.
